An anachronism in plain sight
Torrejón de Ardoz, 30 December 2025
Today I had the opportunity to pass by the Palacio del Infantado, in Guadalajara. Despite growing up relatively close to it, I had barely visited the city, even though I had spent time in other fantastic places in Castilla-La Mancha, such as Albacete, Toledo, and Cuenca. This region never disappoints, and even less so its people.
Philip II of Spain, El Prudente, married Elisabeth of Valois here. This historical figure is particularly interesting to a Spaniard with deep ties to the UK, given his long and complex history with England, though that is a story for another time.
The palace rises quietly in a world that now has little to do with it and rarely remembers it, yet that world remains the result of what we once were.
